Murray Schafer "The Soundscape" "SOUNDMARK: The term is derived from landmark to refer to a community sound which is unique or possesses qualities which make it specially regarded or noticed by the people in that community. Tiro – is a word renown, used and understood only in Bologna: once upon a time the noble buildings in town used to be equipped with a system of ropes and strings that could unlock the entry door. You just had to “pull the rope”: no need to leave the room!

Nowadays, of course, we do not use this old device anymore; however you can still find the word near the entry door of all bolognese buildings, and you can try to “dare il tiro”! Original DAMMI IL TIRO sound installation comprises a 24 hour symphony of door buzzers sampled all around Bologna, for today's Bandcamp Friday you can name your price for an excerpt audio-file from it.
